Chemistry

Students study the structure of matter, including atoms, elements, compounds and the periodic table. They learn how chemical reactions work, write and balance equations, and use ideas such as acids, bases, bonding and conservation of mass to explain changes in substances. Practical work develops skills in measuring, observing reactions, handling laboratory equipment and interpreting experimental results. At high school level, chemistry also connects these principles to topics such as rates of reaction, energy changes and quantitative calculations.
